Abstract: The modern view of symmetries is that they should be regarded as topological operators which act on the states of a theory. We show that this formulation can be extended to trivially-acting symmetries, which are naturally described as a mix of line and point operators. This allows us to refine decomposition by tracking how symmetries distribute themselves under gauging.
